The Daniel List Story

The Quest Sports Management Co. Ltd. Professional Golf Tour is a platform on which Ghanaian Professional golfers compete as they aspire to demonstrate their skills, quality and talents. This platform provides an International Stage from which it is anticipated that the Ghanaian representatives for the 2020 Olympics will be selected.

Aspiring to qualify to the professional level of the game are a number of very good Ghanaian scratch players – amateur golfers who have a handicap of 5 and below - and it is from this pool that The Quest Tour will grow the professional body  and among these scratch players is Daniel List.

The Story of Daniel list, a Ghanaian born scratch golfer who won the under 14 (U14) European Junior Championship, is one that we must tell and share to inspire all of the potential and possibilities within our shores and without. The venue of the European Junior Champion was the testing Par-72 Luffness New Golf Club in East Lothian, Scotland.

The tournament was the U14 European Junior Championships, organised by US Kids Golf, and played from 28th – 30th May. The winner was Daniel List. These are 3 perfectly normal English sentences. The remarkable thing is that the winner of this Championship was born in Accra, Ghana! A member of the Achimota Golf Club in Accra and attends school at Wellington College in Berkshire, UK as a Golf Scholar. At a time when the development of Golf in Ghana, and especially Junior Golf, has been atop the list of priorities for The Ghana Golf Development Board and the Golf Development Project, Daniel’s win comes as a timely reminder of the undoubted golfing talent in this country.

Having to make up a 3 shot deficit on the final day, he shot a 3 under par score of 69 including 2 eagles and a birdie, to win by 2 strokes. The talented Junior advanced from 12th place with score of 74 on the first day to 6th place with 70 on the second day and then eventually overhauling the leaders during the final round. Four players finished 2 shots behind Daniel in 2nd Place on 1 under par -  Jack Hearn (Ireland), Alfredo Curbishley (United Kingdom), Brodie Good (UK) and John Gough (UK).

On Friday 31st May 2013, Daniel formed part of the of the International team which beat the European team in a Junior Ryder Cup style competition called the Van Horn Cup. This was played at Gullane No.1, which will also host Final Qualfying for The Open Championship on 2nd July 2014. Daniel and his partner Bruce Davis Smith of the USA won their better ball match on the last hole, with a 6 under par score of 66, to clinch a pivotal victory for the International team. Birdies on the final two holes by the pairing helped win them the match, coming back from 1 shot behind to win by a solitary stroke while also contributing a vital point for the eventual winners. This was the first International Team victory in the 6 year history of the event.

Daniel plays off a 3 handicap in the UK. He certainly looks to have a bright future in the game and hopefully soon many more Ghanaian golfers will follow in his footsteps!

The quest is looking forward to welcoming Daniel onto the Tour. Olympics 2020, here we come!!!
